How to Use a Buddha Singing Bowl for Meditation, Sound Healing & Spiritual Balance

Setting the Scene

  • Choose a Quiet Space: Find a peaceful environment where you can focus without distractions.
  • Create Comfort: Sit comfortably on the floor or in a chair. If you’re using a cushion, place the bowl on it.

Positioning the Bowl

  • Hold the Bowl: If not using a cushion, hold the bowl in the palm of your hand, fingers spread to provide support.
  • Rest on Cushion: If using a cushion, gently place the bowl in the center.

Striking the Bowl

  • Use the Mallet: Gently strike the edge of the bowl with the mallet. Aim for a spot about a third of the way up from the bottom of the bowl.
  • Listen to the Tone: Pay attention to the sound it produces. This is the start of your meditative practice.

Creating Sustained Sound

  • Circle the Rim: After striking, you can create a sustained sound by gently rubbing the mallet around the rim of the bowl.
  • Apply Even Pressure: Maintain consistent pressure and speed. Experiment with the angle to find the tone you like best.

  • Gently Stop Playing: Gradually reduce the pressure on the bowl until the sound fades.

  • Wipe Clean: Use a soft cloth to clean the bowl after use. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Store Safely: Place your bowl in a safe spot where it won’t be knocked over or damaged.
